Get Canvashand.
Two pieces: the CLI is the MCP server your AI client talks to, and the plugin is the bridge into your open Figma file. Install both once.
macOS and Linux
$curl -fsSL https://www.canvashand.com/install.sh | shDetects your platform, verifies the SHA-256 checksum before installing, and puts canvashand on your PATH. It also puts the Figma plugin in ~/.canvashand/canvashand-plugin. Upgrade both later with canvashand upgrade.
Moving from Figma Go? Run figma-go upgrade once; it moves your plugin folder and client configs to Canvashand.

Safari and Chrome mark downloaded files as quarantined, and macOS stops the binary with no error message. Run this once after installing:
$xattr -d com.apple.quarantine $(command -v canvashand)The installer script is not affected — only browser downloads.
Install the plugin in Figma desktop
- Unzip canvashand-plugin.zip
- In Figma desktop: Plugins → Development → Import plugin from manifest…
- Pick canvashand-plugin/manifest.json
- Open a file, run Canvashand, sign in, and keep the window open
Figma desktop only — the browser app cannot import a local manifest. canvashand upgrade keeps ~/.canvashand/canvashand-plugin current; if you use this zip instead, download again and replace the unzipped folder in place.
After installing
Run the setup command from the project where you want Canvashand available. It installs the MCP connection and bundled design skill in that current directory. Then open the plugin in Figma and sign in with the same Google account.
$canvashand setup --all --scope projectUninstalling
To completely remove the CLI binary and cached plugin files from your system:
$rm -f $(command -v canvashand) && rm -rf ~/.canvashandIn Figma, go to Plugins → Development and remove the Canvashand manifest. No background services, persistent daemons, or registry entries are kept.
